Please meet our amazing counselor, Kandy North

I began my journey in mental health in 2006, somewhat unexpectedly. My original plan was to pursue a career in education, but life took a different turn when I became the caregiver for my nieces and nephew, who were then 7, 9, and 10 years old. They faced significant challenges, and I quickly realized the need for additional support. This led me to navigate the special education system, mental health services, developmental disabilities resources, and the juvenile justice system.

In 2006, my children’s therapist recognized my growing expertise and recommended me as a peer parent support partner. This opportunity marked the beginning of my career in mental health. I spent six rewarding years with the Provider Network known as QCN, where I gained invaluable experience. However, as the system evolved, I transitioned to the Family Involvement Center, where I spent the next eight years overseeing their youth department within the valley before moving into clinical leadership roles.

Throughout my career, I have remained a passionate advocate for parents and caregivers who find navigating these complex child-serving systems challenging. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in leadership psychology.

My personal experiences have fueled my desire to help others understand the importance of attachment and bonding in a child’s brain development. I am trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), with a strong background in supporting clients and parents dealing with trauma. Today, I am proud to be a grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren, and I continue to dedicate my career to helping families thrive.
